page 2 of 5 eyes contact: in case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention if irritation persists. 5. fire - fighting measures suitable extinguishing media: water - spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical or alcohol - resistant foam. fire and explosion hazards: this material does not present any unusual fire or explosion hazards. it hydrolyzes on contact with moisture releasing ignitable, corrosive vapors. hazardous decomposition products: carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, si licon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and incompletely combusted hydrocarbons. special protective equipment for fire fighters: fire fighters should wear self - contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing . 6. accide n t al release measures personal precautions : wear ppe (see section 8). avoid contact with eyes and skin. avoid inhaling mists and vapors. if material is released th ere is a risk of slipping if walked through. environmental precaution: prevent material from entering surface waters, drains or sewers and soil. contain any fluid that runs out using suitable material. retain contaminated water/extinguishing water. methods for clean up: do not flush away with water. for small amounts, us e absorbents such as diatomaceous earth or clay. contain larger amounts and pump into suitable containers. clean any slippery surfaces with a detergent solution or another biodegradable cleaner. 7. handling and storage handling: avoid formation of aerosols. in case of aerosol formation, special protective measures are required (ventilation and/or respiratory protection). storage: keep containers tightly closed. keep containers in a cool, well - ventilated area. not suitable: do not allow contact with acids . 8. exposure controls/personal protection exposure controls: no special ventilation requirements if good ventilation is maintained. hygiene measures: wash hands after handling this product and before eating, smoking, using the restroom, and at the end of the day. personal protective equipment: respiratory protection: recommendation in case of long or strong exposure : niosh approved air purifying respirator equipped with approved gas vapor cartridges is recommended if overexposure to chemical vapors could occur. if eye irritating vapors are present, a full - face respirator should be worn. skin and body: protective clothing such as a rubber apron, over - sleeves, lab coat, coveralls, or a tyvek suit should be worn is splashing could occur. provide eye wash and safety shower.
